The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Man and Woman of the Year campaign is an ambitious, ten-week, high-profile fundraiser in which candidates across the San Francisco Bay Area compete to raise the most funds for LLS in honor of the Boy and Girl of the Year, who are blood cancer survivors and whose lives and families have been dramatically affected by the diagnosis of blood cancer at a young age.

LLS plays an instrumental role in funding research of blood cancer therapies. The United States government is the only entity that spends more money on cancer research than LLS. The money that LLS uses to fund cancer research comes from public support programs such as the Man and Woman of the Year fundraising Campaign.

Roger Royse, leader of the Team Motion to Dismiss Cancer

Roger Royse is a Northern California lawyer with a long history of participation in local and national charitable causes. As a Silicon Valley lawyer, Roger lives close to educational institutions and companies engaged in cutting edge research and promising new technologies that can end blood cancers and serve as the gateway to a cure for other cancers. In a time of heightened scrutiny of governmental aid, LLS supports new therapies for the leukemia and lymphoma but also fills a gap in funding treatment of rare blood cancers that get less support from other sources. LLS also provides patient support and services to cancer patients, particularly to children afflicted by not only blood cancer disease but also the side affects of chemotherapies, such as learning impairment and childhood obesity. Roger is participating in the Man & Woman of the Year program to raise money for LLS’ research and patient services. Together we can “move to dismiss” cancer in our lifetimes.
